Tesla Comes to Austin
September 5, 2020 4:45 pm
Tesla is giving people yet another reason to purchase new homes in Austin TX. The world-
famous electric car manufacturer is busy laying the groundwork for a gigantic factory that will
employ 5,000 workers starting in 2021. Tesla plans to make its Model Y electric crossover utility
vehicles and Cybertrucks in the 4.5-million-square-foot factory.
The new factory is being built on a 2,100 acre tract along Texas 130 in the Del Valle area
southeast of downtown. The so-called “gigafactory” is expected to attract further development to
the area. For many years, Del Valle’s development lagged behind other towns surrounding
Austin. Lately the area has grown along with the booming popularity of the greater Austin area.
Tesla’s development will pour at least $1 billion into the region’s economy. That money along
with resources from other new employers like Chanel and Zoho will help to improve the area’s
infrastructure, attract retailers and provide funds for new and improved community services and
resources like recreation centers, parks and libraries. Texas favorite HEB is scouting the area for
a location to build a much-needed grocery store.
To provide more assets for local residents, the Tesla factory site will also have walking and
biking trails open to the public as well as a boardwalk next to the Colorado River.
Del Valle is the site of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and the Circuit of the
Americas racetrack. Highways 130 and 71 provide convenient travel corridors.
It’s no surprise that the area has seen recent growth in housing as the Austin area continues to
attract new residents by the thousands.
Buffington has three communities within a half hour drive of Del Valle. The Colony in Bastrop
is 25 minutes from Del Valle. Located next to McKinney Roughs Park, The Colony offers
natural surroundings and outdoor activities for the whole family. Whisper Valley near Manor is a
forward-thinking community of eco-smart homes with electric vehicle charging stations.
ShadowGlen is adjacent to a world-class golf course. The community has its own waterpark and
a new elementary school. Whisper Valley and ShadowGlen are just 15 minutes from Del Valle.
