ShadowGlen Families Have Innovative New High School

Students who live in the ShadowGlen community of homes in Manor TX have a brand new state-of-the-art high school opening this fall.
The new school will be called Manor Senior High School and will serve up to 1,200 juniors and seniors. The existing school, known as Manor High School, will continue to serve freshmen and sophomores.
Manor Senior High School is about four miles from the original high school. Students will be bused between the campuses as needed to participate in technical and career-training classes, advanced level courses and varsity sports. The new school is next to the Manor Athletic Complex.
State-of-the-art features will abound in the $48 million, 215,000 square foot Senior High School building. These include open workspaces, charging stations for laptops and phones, a 3-D printer, a technology room with Chromebooks and iPads students can borrow, a coffee bar run by students and a bistro-style commercial kitchen for culinary students.
Innovation is nothing new to the Manor ISD. In 2014 President Barack Obama visited several schools in the district including the cutting-edge Manor New Technology High School. The school is focused on STEM courses: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
Class sizes will be small to allow for more effective interaction between teachers and students. It is hoped that the features of the new school will increase student engagement and boost graduation rates to an ideal 100%.
The district’s original plan was to renovate the existing high school, but in light of the area’s rapid population growth a decision was made to create an additional building in order to keep the population size at each school at a more manageable level. The original high school did undergo some renovations and currently serves 1,762 students. Manor Senior High School is scheduled to open in August with 900 juniors and seniors enrolled.
The school’s design will offer upper-grade students the look and feel of an intimate college campus. The school is surrounded by open land and farms, helping to maintain Manor’s small-town ambience.
Manor is one of the fast-growing suburbs of Austin, due in part to its affordability. The average home price in the area is around $200,000, unusual in the hot Central Texas market. For that reason especially, Manor is attractive to young adults and growing families. New home construction is booming in the area.
