As the leading home builder in Austin TX, Buffington Homes is hard at work making our customers’ dreams come true. Even during this busy season, we take time to enjoy the many outdoor attractions the area has to offer.
We’d like to share some of our favorite ideas for exploring the Austin outdoors this summer:
Covering 358 acres, Zilker Park offers a diverse array of amenities such as a disc golf course, volleyball courts, picnic tables and botanical gardens. The park’s Austin Nature and Science Center has science labs, live native animals and an interactive “dinosaur dig.” Be aware that some park features may not be currently open. We recommend checking the city’s website for the most recent closure information and permitted activities.
Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail
This 10 mile loop through both urban and natural areas is the most popular outdoor recreation spot in Austin. The trail goes around Lady Bird Lake (aka the Colorado River). It also includes a 7,250-foot boardwalk section with viewing areas and an ADA accessible pier.
Shoal Creek Hike and Bike Trail
Almost 4 miles long, this trail runs along Shoal Creek between Cesar Chavez St. and W. 38th St. It runs through Duncan Park and Pease Park and is shaded by mature oak trees. At the northern end it winds through a small canyon with interesting rock formations.
McKinney Falls State Park
Enjoy the natural beauty of the Hill Country at this state park located within the Austin city limits. Splash or swim in Onion Creek and cool off in the natural swimming hole under the waterfall. Hike, bike, picnic, fish, swim or stay overnight at a campsite or in a cabin.
Buffington’s master planned new home communities are filled with on-site amenities that let you enjoy the outdoors right in your own neighborhood. Our communities have resort-style swimming pools, playgrounds, walking trails and more. We make it easy for you to hop in the pool after work or take an invigorating walk in the morning.
