Austin TX homes are in short supply relative to the number of buyers in the market. More houses were started in Central Texas than ever before, yet buyers still found themselves facing stiff competition for those new homes.
Median home prices also reached a new high at $313,594 in 2020. The good news for buyers is that the trend is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. Homes bought today should quickly gain value in the near future. At that rate, homeowners in the region will build equity faster than in other areas of the country.
New residents are drawn to the Austin metropolitan area by good job prospects, a relatively affordable cost of living, and lifestyle factors. Austin has abundant venues for entertainment, recreation and sports. Tesla, Samsung, Oracle, Apple and many other tech companies are based in the area, and several are in the process of expanding.
