July 21, 2018 2:33 pm

The Southpark Meadows community of new homes in Austin TX is surrounded by excellent restaurants ideal for family dinners. The eateries on our “Top 5” list have casual atmospheres and most have playgrounds on site. Kids can burn off some energy while parents relax and enjoy their food.

These truly kid-friendly restaurants can be your go-to spots for an evening of good food and family fun in the South Austin area:

Flores Mexican Restaurant

Here you’ll find Mexican and Tex-Mex food for the whole family. The menu features enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, pollo poblano and more. Stop in on weekend mornings and enjoy breakfast. A playscape keeps kids busy while parents rest and recharge.

Hat Creek Burger Company

Kid-friendly food, fast service, picnic table-style seating and an outdoor play area make this a sure pick for family dinners. There’s something for every taste with breakfast bowls and platters, burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, milkshakes and a kids’ menu. Tuesday night is family night. Starting at 5 p.m., Big Hats and Little Hats (double and single burgers) are half price. Hat Creek also hosts parties, breakfast pajama parties and school fundraisers.

Phil’s Icehouse

Phil’s features kid-friendly food like burgers, grilled cheese, hot dogs, chicken and fish sandwiches. The kids’ menu has mini burgers, chicken tenders, corn dog and even a veggie burger. For dessert, each location includes an Amy’s Ice Creams next door. Prices are discounted on draft beers and glasses of wine between 3 and 5:30 p.m. for “parent’s recess.” Mom or Dad can relax and sip while the kids enjoy the playscape.

Doc’s Backyard

Doc’s Sunset Valley location has a large patio with a play area. Shuffleboard and cornhole add a party feel to the dining experience. Food offerings include tacos, fish & chips, burgers, sandwiches, salads, all-day breakfast and Frito pie. Four-legged family members are welcome, too!

Top Notch

This fifties-style burger joint has curb service so you can eat in your car. There’s also a dining room for a more traditional night out. Top Notch is perfect for quick stops or those days when the little ones are too grouchy or sleepy to go into a restaurant. Burgers, fried shrimp and chicken are featured on the menu.
